Course Requirements

The curriculum and requirements for admission conform to the standards set forth by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education.ÌýApplicants must present a minimum of three pre-professional years of college credits (100 semester credits or 152 quarter credits) and minimum cumulative (3.0)Ìýand science (2.8) grade point averageÌýon a 4.00 scale or its equivalent from an accredited United States college or university. The college or university credits must include courses in the categories listed below. Grades of less than “C“ are not acceptable. Only science courses completed within six (6) academic years of the date of application will be considered. Additionally, courses taken on a pass/fail basis cannot be transferred for credit.

Applicants who have matriculated at non-US colleges and universities must comply with the above requirements and with those listed in the foreign applicants in the ÌÇÐÄVlogÆƽâ°æ Bulletin. These include evaluation of their transcripts by an independent agency and an appropriate test in English (TOEFL and/or TWE).

Applicants will be required to complete at least 200 clinical contact hours with a licensed veterinarian. 1 credit hour of Medical Terminology will be REQUIRED as a prerequisite for admission.

1.Can I still be taking courses and apply through VMCAS?

  • ÌýYes, you can still be in the process of taking your prerequisite courses in the Fall and Spring of the application year.
  • Ìýif you are selected for a seat, you will need to submit your final transcripts by June 1st of that acceptance year.


2. My Biochemistry class was only a 3-hour credit course. What do I do about the 1 credit hour for the lab?

  • ÌýIf you have taken Organic Chemistry II with a lab, we can accept that lab credit for the Biochemistry lab.


4.What are some options for Medical Terminology credit?

  • ÌýIf your university does not offer a Medical Terminology course, many students take the credit through StraighterLine.
  • ÌýStraighterLine is an online self-paced class. You will send the transcripts directly to TUCVM and not VMCAS. TUCVM accepts StraighterLine transcripts, but VMCAS does not.


5.Do you accept online courses?

  • ÌýYes, we accept online courses if they are for college credit and from an accredited institution.
  • ÌýNo certificate programs will be accepted.
