Research Summary

  • Community Development of the African American Resettlement Communities, to examine what was proposed and initiated in the 1930s to see what was successful and what was not and to learn what can be applied to contemporary community settings. Past and current support through USDA Capacity Building Program, and USDA Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education – Sustainable Communities Program.
  • Integrated Natural and Human Systems Analysis to examine the concept of sustainability from a holistic perspective (Social, economic and environmental) and to propose a model for sustainable farm/family management. Past and Current support through USDA NIFA and National Science Foundation.
  • Comprehensive Research, Product Development and Outreach of the Sweetpotato (roots and leaves) for the economic and nutritional well-being of West African farm families.  Past support through USDA Foreign Agriculture Service and USAID.
  • Policy Analysis and Outreach for limited resource socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers.  Past and Current support through Oxfam America and USDA NIFA.
